Artist Statement

I teach Painting and Drawing, Creative Thinking and the Art of Fashion to children, teens and senior adults at Multnomah Arts Center, Markham House Assisted Living, and in my own studio. I show my work at all of these locations, as well as Lake Oswego Festival of the Arts.

I teach because by teaching others about what I love – color, line, design and composition, I free myself to explore these in interesting and constantly changing ways. Each of these pieces is the result of experiments using line to build a scene or fracture an image. I work with a variety of mediums -acrylics, pens, color pencil, and my favorite, Caran D’ache crayons, to add color and pattern. I have discovered that by focusing on how to encourage creativity and teach technique and process, I can to develop a variety of styles and images that work for all ages.
