Architectural details attract me. Some of these are: arcades, arches, capitals, friezes, balustrades, and columns. The way the light enhances them puts me in the mood to paint what I see. Geometric patterns become exotic shadows. Stone and marble are my challenge to interpret in watercolor. Artistic license is a joy when I find new materials to do my story telling with.
Lately, painting on Masa paper is my greatest pleasure. The veining of marble can be achieved by first painting on the reverse side of the Masa paper. It is fascinating to replicate antiquity with this method.
