Christopher’s creative process starts with a substantive period of thoughtful consideration of a single feeling – an inspired state of heart/mind evoked by a scene – from which the painting arises. Various palette knives are used to apply viscous oil paint thickly to a solid subsurface to obtain texture – controlled smears and scrape marks of strong color creating a vibrant, energized image as the surface is built up layer upon layer. Each painting represents something of Christopher’s own inner life, which combines with the viewer’s visual associations and memories, enriching his or her experience through a shared state of aesthetic consciousness.
