My work is inspired by the images and forms that I observe in nature. I allow my eye to embrace the forms in both positive and negative space. Whether carving a block of wood or stone, contouring the earth while creating a landscape, or pressing my hands into clay, I am drawn to creating new shapes. Earlier work in wood carving and stone sculpture led me to a realization that these were subtractive processes. My forms have typically been one of a kind. With bronze casting I have found that there is a possibility for variations from the original.
