Micheline “Mickey” Ronningen Exhibit
July 5 – September 8, 2017
Micheline “Mickey” Ronningen received formal fine art training at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1972. She spent a summer at the SAIC-affiliated Ox-Bow School of Art in Saugatuck, Michigan. Mickey’s explorations in art includes printmaking, sculpture, filmmaking, fabric dyeing, doll-making, landscape design, and most recently two-dimensional work on canvas, paper and Claybord. She finds further creative expression and support through writing, and comedic performances in commercials and in a TV series. Mickey is a recurring character on the hit IFC series “Portlandia”, playing Carrie Brownstein’s mother.
Micheline recently received a professional development grant from the Regional Arts & Culture Council of Oregon. This allowed the services of a coach, Gigi Rosenberg. Partial outcome remains an active web site (www.artmsr.com), exhibition experience in over twenty venues, including galleries in Chicago and Europe (Portugal), various social media connections, continuing studio work and an ongoing appreciation of the learning curve involved.
Mickey’s colorful & varied employment included three years at Chicago’s Museum of Contemporary Art. Publishing credits include co-authoring and illustrating a book on gardening, producing an arts newsletter, a creator of four children’s books and a nonfiction piece on muskoxen.
Balancing this work-oriented portrait is Mickey’s love for her husband of nearly forty years, her stepdaughter, son-in-law, three grandsons, other family members and friends, gardening, meditation, reading, and practicing amor fati—the love of one’s fate.
An open house reception will be held on Wednesday, July 5th from 5:00pm-7:00pm.
Mickey is an exhibit artist with the Artist Exhibit Program through the Clackamas County Arts Alliance.
Gallery hours are Monday-Friday, 7 am-5 pm.
