Monthly, First Tuesday, 7 – 8:30 pm
Lake Oswego Public Library
Portland-based musician Eric John Kaiser will present a tribute to the late Charles Aznavour (1924-2018), one of France’s most beloved performers of popular music, as part of our First Tuesday Music series, at 7 p.m. Tuesday, October 1. Aznavour was a French-Armenian who wrote over 1,000 songs, appeared in 60 movies, performed into his 90s, and campaigned ceaselessly on behalf of the human rights of Armenians. “Le Petit Charles,” as the French called him, wrote songs for many of France’s leading popular singers, including Edith Piaf, Yves Montand, and Leo Ferre. As Frank Prial wrote in Aznavour’s New York Times obituary last October, “Mr. Aznavour’s career spanned the history of the chanson realiste, the unvarnished tales of unrequited love, loneliness and anomie that found their apotheosis in the anguished voice of Piaf.” Paris-born Eric John Kaiser describes himself as “a singer-songwriter reimagining Americana music through a French lens.” He has written hundreds of songs and performed in France, Canada, and the U.S. This is sure to be a memorable evening.
