Second Wednesday Performing Arts Series

Monthly, Second Wednesday, 1 – 2 pm

Lake Oswego Adult Community Center

Wednesday, January 9 – Adam Miller: Please join Legendary Folksinger, Storyteller & Autoharp Virtuoso Adam Miller for an afternoon of Traditional Whaling and Sailing Folksongs at the Adult Community Center.

Two hundred years ago, practically every lamp that burned was filled with oil extracted from the carcass of a great whale. Once upon a time, whaling was the fifth largest industry in the USA. This sing-along program features authentic traditional 18th and 19th century shanties, saltwater sailor ballads, and whaling songs from the days of Moby Dick. (This program commemorates the beginning of 22-year old Herman Melville’s first voyage as a “green hand” aboard the whaler Acushnet, on January 3, 1841.)
