SUMMARY:Tilikum Chamber Orchestra: “Longing for Spring”
DESCRIPTION:In a letter to conductor William Taubert\, Robert Schumann wrote of his First Symphony\, “Could you breathe a little of the longing for spring into your orchestra as they play? This is what I had in mind while writing this symphony.” Bubbling brooks\, warm walks in the woods\, and fairies fill the concert hall as three Romantic works breathe that same longing for spring into our lives. The program opens with Weber’s overture to Oberon\, a magical journey through enchanted forests and the Middle East\, followed by Charles Gounod’s underperformed\, Mozart-inspired Petite Symphonie for nine wind instruments. The evening’s centerpiece is Schumann’s Symphony No. 1 in B-flat major\, inspired by Adolf Böttger’s poem celebrating the blossoming of spring. Together\, these works guide listeners through the sights\, sounds\, and stories of a fresh spring day—an ideal musical antidote to the late-February lull. \nCarl Maria von Weber: Overture to Oberon\nCharles Gounod: Petite Symphonie\nRobert Schumann: Symphony No. 1 in B flat major op. 38 (“Spring”) \nTickets are available online at https://www.tilikumchamberorchestra.com/concerts and at the door:\nAdults: $15; Seniors: $12; Students (and adult student with ID): $5; Children under 12: Free \nLakeridge High School Performing Arts Building\n1235 Overlook Dr.\, Lake Oswego\, OR 97034

SUMMARY:Lakeridge HS Jazz Guest Artist Concert
DESCRIPTION:Lakeridge High School’s award-winning Jazz Program is thrilled to announce its inaugural Guest Artist Jazz Concert featuring internationally acclaimed flugelhornist Dmitri Matheny on Thursday\, February 26\, 2026\, at 7:00 PM in the Lakeridge High School auditorium. \nThis milestone event marks the beginning of a new tradition for Lakeridge’s jazz students\, building upon the tremendous success of the band program’s guest artist concert series\, which has previously featured celebrated artists Three Leg Torso and Dr. Gregory Barrett. \nMatheny\, lauded by the San Francisco Chronicle as “one of the jazz world’s most talented horn players\,” brings decades of professional experience and a distinguished career as both performer and educator. An honors graduate of the prestigious Interlochen Arts Academy and Berklee College of Music\, Matheny emerged onto the jazz scene in the 1990s as the protégé of legendary flugelhornist Art Farmer. He has since toured internationally\, performed in 19 countries\, and appeared on over 120 recordings as a composer\, arranger\, and soloist. The Dmitri Matheny Group performs over 100 concerts annually throughout the United States and abroad. \n“I am incredibly excited for our students to have this unique opportunity to perform alongside a professional flugelhornist of Dmitri’s caliber\,” said Daniel Hartley\, Lakeridge Band Director. “Working with a world-class artist provides our jazz students with invaluable hands-on learning that simply can’t be replicated in the classroom. This inaugural jazz guest artist concert represents our commitment to providing the highest quality musical experiences for our students\, and I couldn’t be more thrilled to launch this tradition with an artist of Dmitri Matheny’s stature.” \nThe evening will feature performances by Lakeridge’s jazz ensembles alongside Matheny\, giving students the rare opportunity to share the stage with a seasoned professional and learn from his decades of experience working with jazz luminaries including Larry Coryell\, Tommy Flanagan\, Wycliffe Gordon\, John Handy\, Billy Higgins\, James Moody\, Max Roach\, and Bobby Watson. \nLakeridge’s Jazz Program\, which includes Jazz Ensemble\, Jazz Lab\, and three Jazz Combos\, enters this concert on the heels of capturing the 2025-2026 Three Rivers League District Championship\, held this past November. The Three Rivers League competition is one of several prestigious jazz festivals throughout the year where high school jazz bands are evaluated on stylistic choices\, ensemble sound and musicality\, rhythm section performance\, and solo improvisation. Lakeridge jazz students compete at festivals hosted by Clark College\, the OMEA state championship and the Mt. Hood Jazz Festival. Select jazz students join the University of Oregon’s Day of Improv as well. \nIn addition to the concert\, Matheny will conduct educational workshops with Lakeridge students during the day\, sharing insights from his extensive performing and recording career. Known for his dedication to jazz education\, Matheny regularly presents master classes and clinics at universities across the United States and abroad. \nTickets are $10 and can be purchased at the door or by scanning the QR code on promotional materials. For more information\, please contact the Lakeridge High School Band Program. \nAbout Dmitri Matheny:\nCelebrated for his warm tone\, soaring lyricism\, and masterful technique\, Dmitri Matheny has released twelve critically acclaimed albums as a leader\, most recently “Cascadia” (Origin Records\, 2022). He has collaborated with some of jazz’s greatest artists and dedicates himself to both performance and music education. Matheny currently resides in Washington state and tours extensively throughout the United States\, Europe\, and Asia.
