SUMMARY:Korean War Remembrance Ceremony
DESCRIPTION:Honor veterans and acknowledge the start of the Korean War at this event\, which includes the grand opening of the new Oregon Korean War Memorial Interpretive Center. Speakers for the event include Consul General Eunji Seo of the Korean Consulate in Seattle\, and representatives from the Oregon Department of Veterans Affairs\, the Oregon Military Department\, the Korean Society of Oregon and the City of Wilsonville. A special ceremony is being held to award the Korean Ambassador for Peace medal to a dozen Korean War veterans or their family representatives. The Oregon Korean War Memorial Interpretive Center showcases the stories of 90+ Oregon Korean War veterans\, using video\, flip books\, and photos. A topographical map outlines famous Korean War battles and battlelines. Visitors can read interesting stories\, see flags of allies who came to the aid of South Korea\, read about the “Firsts of the Korean War\,” and view everyday items used by soldiers. DESCRIPTION:To celebrate the United State’s 250th’s anniversary\, the Museum of the Oregon Territory will offer FREE ADMISSION to visitors on Friday\, July 3\, 2026! Come and see our newest exhibits\, such as “Land & People of the Willamette Valley: A History Shaped by River\,” and “Jennings Lodge Camp: A Gathering of Faith\, Community\, and Revival.” Visitors can get hands-on by building a simulated campfire\, sending a telegraph\, taking on the role of engineers figuring out how to channel power to Portland\, and many more interactive activities. SUMMARY:Native American Flute Workshop (All Ages)
DESCRIPTION:The Native American flute is an instrument that is simple to play and requires no previous experience with music or instruments. \nIn this workshop\, participants will learn about the Native American flute through storytelling by Deitz Peters while they decorate a durable PVC flute of their very own. Once the flutes are created\, participants will learn and practice the basics of flute playing and the etiquette of playing in a Native flute circle with other musicians. Register today for $5! \nParticipants under 10 must be accompanied by an adult that is also registered for the workshop. \nThis workshop is generously supported by a grant from the Clackamas County Cultural Coalition. Space is limited to 30 participants. \nDeitz Peters:\nDeitrich Peters was born in Oregon\, and is a member of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde. He is Kalapuya\, Rogue River\, and Umpqua. His given name is Cosa Tance\, which means “Sky Dancer”. \nDeitrich has a deep love for his culture and traditions\, including making items by hand\, working with feathers\, beadwork\, traditional dancing\, and storytelling. His personal favorite is playing the flute. He has learned these many skills from tribal elders or considers them gifts from the Creator. \nNicholas Emerson:\nNicholas teaches music production\, songwriting and composition\, guitar\, ukulele\, and bass at YMP. He is a registered descendant of the Colville band of the Nez Perce tribe from Northern Washington. \nHe is very active in the local Portland music scene helping to cultivate the incredible wealth of youth talent in the Pacific Northwest and is involved with organizations including Fear No Music Young Composers Project and Northwest Children’s Theater & School. Nicholas also teaches at Reed College and Portland State University and is passionate about teaching music with a compositional approach\, to enable students to learn how to compose their own music as they learn how to play their instrument.

DESCRIPTION:This event repeats every week on Monday. \n\n\n\n\nJoin Sharon Gan\, founder of Heart Strings Mandarin\, for a program specially designed for young learners. We will sing\, move\, play instruments\, and tell stories. We welcome all levels of Mandarin fluency from absolute beginners to native Mandarin speakers. Recommended for ages 2-5 years.
