DESCRIPTION:Join artist Susan Schenk for a talk and hands‑on demo exploring how she transforms neglected atlas pages into dimensional mixed‑media artworks. A devoted map lover\, Schenk elevates old cartographic materials into nature‑inspired shapes that obscure familiar details and invite viewers to slow down and discover new patterns. She’ll share her creative process\, her passion for reviving discarded maps\, and the stencil‑based techniques that add depth and complexity to her pieces. Attendees will also experiment briefly with maps and stencils themselves. \nYou can view Schenk’s work in the library’s Stairwell Gallery throughout September in her show The Mixed‑Media Elevated Maps of Susan Schenk.
