Kelly’s compelling and deeply felt story touches on themes of living with a chronic illness that threatens her personal and professional identities\, talking to children about serious medical conditions and death\, and recognizing the ways that physical limitations affect how we relate to our loved ones and shape how we understand ourselves. \nThis event is made possible through the sponsorship of the Friends of the Lake Oswego Public Library\, and is presented in cooperation with the Lake Theater & Cafe. SUMMARY:World Cinema Series: Loving Karma
DESCRIPTION:A sequel to the Emmy award-winning documentary Tashi and the Monk\, Loving Karma follows Tashi’s twelve-year journey at Jhamtse Gatsal\, a children’s community in the Himalayan foothills of Arunachal Pradesh\, and explores how love\, stability\, and daily care can help heal early trauma. \nThis screening is shown with permission from the local documentary filmmaker and co-director of the film\, Andrew Hinton. Hinton will be at the screening to give a special introduction to his film. Viewers are invited to stay after the screening to engage in a moderated group discussion about the themes and message of the film. \nThis screening is part of the Lake Oswego Public Library’s World Cinema Series\, scheduled the last Tuesday of every month at 5:30 pm to showcase diverse international films. Using the traditional Serti method\, he outlines forms with a water-resistant medium before applying fabric dyes that are permanently set through steaming\, resulting in vivid color and fluid\, expressive lines unique to silk painting. His work focuses on people and shared human experiences\, drawing deeply from Vietnamese heritage and portraying scenes of daily life\, relationships\, and social themes.\nThe exhibition will be on view throughout February during regular library hours.
