SUMMARY:October Stairwell Gallery Artist: Maura Greenblum
DESCRIPTION:October Stairwell Gallery Artist: Maura Greenblum\nDaily\, all open hours \nMaura Greenblum is a Portland-based artist who moved from New York 25 years ago\, exchanging skyscrapers for forest trails. Trained at the Fashion Institute of Technology with further studies at the School of Visual Arts and Pratt Institute\, her work reflects both urban and natural influences and has appeared in national publications as well as private and public collections. \nFor Greenblum\, painting is a meditative practice—a way of holding stillness and presence. Working in oils\, acrylics\, and ink\, she lets each scene guide the medium\, capturing moments that invite the viewer to pause.

SUMMARY:Halloween Art Workshop with Drawn2Art
DESCRIPTION:Halloween Art Workshop with Drawn2Art\nFriday\, October 24\, 10:30 am (lower level)\nWhat a fun way to spend an hour on a day with no school. Learn how to draw and color classic Halloween characters! \nDrawn2Art’s philosophy is “creativity follows mastery\,” and that a strong foundation of artistic skills will enable students to eventually follow any artistic path they choose. In the same way that the great Masters became proficient in classical drawing and painting first\, so do our students. This one-hour session is appropriate for children ages 5 and up. \nThe Lake Oswego Public Library is located at 706 Fourth Street\, Lake Oswego. For more information\, contact the Children’s desk at 503-697-6580 or visit the Library’s website at www.lopl.org/kids.

SUMMARY:Author Talk - Emma Pattee
DESCRIPTION:Emma Pattee imagines the impact of an anticipated 9.0 magnitude earthquake on the 700-mile Cascadia fault line in her breathtaking first novel\, Tilt. \nAnnie is nine months pregnant and shopping for a crib at IKEA when a massive earthquake hits Portland\, Oregon. With no way to reach her husband\, no phone or money\, and a city left in chaos\, there’s nothing to do but walk. Making her way across the wreckage of Portland\, Annie experiences both human desperation and kindness. \nEmma is a climate journalist and fiction writer. Her work has been published in The Atlantic\, The New York Times\, The Washington Post\, The Guardian\, and elsewhere. She lives in Oregon. \nThe Fall Author Series is co-sponsored by Spoke & Word Books. Special thanks to the Friends of the Ledding Library for providing the funding that makes this program possible.
