SUMMARY:Author Talk - Emma Pattee
DESCRIPTION:Emma Pattee imagines the impact of an anticipated 9.0 magnitude earthquake on the 700-mile Cascadia fault line in her breathtaking first novel\, Tilt. \nAnnie is nine months pregnant and shopping for a crib at IKEA when a massive earthquake hits Portland\, Oregon. With no way to reach her husband\, no phone or money\, and a city left in chaos\, there’s nothing to do but walk. Making her way across the wreckage of Portland\, Annie experiences both human desperation and kindness. \nEmma is a climate journalist and fiction writer. Her work has been published in The Atlantic\, The New York Times\, The Washington Post\, The Guardian\, and elsewhere. She lives in Oregon. \nThe Fall Author Series is co-sponsored by Spoke & Word Books. Special thanks to the Friends of the Ledding Library for providing the funding that makes this program possible.

SUMMARY:October Stairwell Gallery Artist: Maura Greenblum
DESCRIPTION:October Stairwell Gallery Artist: Maura Greenblum\nDaily\, all open hours \nMaura Greenblum is a Portland-based artist who moved from New York 25 years ago\, exchanging skyscrapers for forest trails. Trained at the Fashion Institute of Technology with further studies at the School of Visual Arts and Pratt Institute\, her work reflects both urban and natural influences and has appeared in national publications as well as private and public collections. \nFor Greenblum\, painting is a meditative practice—a way of holding stillness and presence. Working in oils\, acrylics\, and ink\, she lets each scene guide the medium\, capturing moments that invite the viewer to pause.

SUMMARY:Kurdish Dance Workshop: The Storytelling Through Movement and Tradition
DESCRIPTION:Instructor: Houshang (Ramin) Sedighi\nKurdish dance is a profound form of storytelling\, deeply rooted in centuries of\ncultural tradition\, history\, and literature. This workshop will explore the ancient\ndances of Iranian Kurdistan\, where movement and rhythm are not just expressions of\njoy\, but also vehicles for narrative—telling stories of resilience\, community\, and the\nhuman experience. Like literature\, dance has long been a powerful medium to\npreserve and pass down stories\, connecting the past with the present and future\ngenerations.
