State Street \nThis month’s Pints from the Past is hosted by Norm Gholston\, Preservation Program Manager at the Architectural Heritage Center of Portland and Board Member of Portland’s Chinatown Museum\, on the topic of “Asylum and Cemetery – a talk about Hawthorne Asylum and the nearby Lone Fir Cemetery.” This event is sponsored by the Friends of the Lake Oswego Public Library.\nLone Fir Cemetery is Portland’s oldest continuously operating cemetery and many asylum patients were laid to rest there as well as Chinese Americans in a segregated Block 14 section. \nThis program is offered by the Lake Oswego Public Library in cooperation with the Lake Theater & Cafe. Admission is free and no ticket is required (though food and drink purchases are encouraged to offset the cost to the Lake Theater). Doors open at 6:30\, the presentation begins at 7:00.\nLake Theater & Cafe is located at 106 North State Street\, Lake Oswego. In this guided tasting\, we will explore several black teas through mindful brewing\, comparing their unique expressions and stories that span regions and traditions. Together\, we’ll move through a spiral of sensations that invite grounding\, reflection\, and deeper connection to the present moment. \nThis gathering is offered with a suggested contribution of $35. In the spirit of inclusivity and balance\, you are welcome to offer what feels right for you\, whether that is $35\, $25\, or more if you have the means. Contributions above the suggested amount help make this experience accessible to those with financial need and sustain the ongoing care and energy poured into holding spaces like this. Every offering\, whether financial or energetic\, affirms the value of community supported education. \nWe also acknowledge the systemic barriers that have long limited access for BIPOC communities.
