As a regular news item, we are continuing to highlight the various arts and culture recipients of Clackamas County Cultural Coalition Project Grants. This month, we are excited to feature New Century Players and their collaboration with Rex Putnam High School on the production of Legally Blonde, the Musical.
Legally Blonde tells the story of Elle Woods, a sorority girl who enrolls at Harvard Law School to win back her ex-boyfriend Warner. She discovers how her knowledge of the law can help others, and against the odds, defends exercise queen Brooke Wyndham in a murder trial. Throughout the show, no one has faith in Elle Woods, but she manages to surprise them when she defies expectations while staying true to herself. Based on the novel by Amanda Brown and the MGM movie starring Reese Witherspoon.
Showing throughout February 2018, this project offered students a unique opportunity to work alongside theatre professionals, all while providing the local community with a quality live theatre experience. As part of their community-centric audience development goals, they make a special effort to teach out to the senior community.
New Century Players received a $750 Project Grant to help fund their promotional efforts of Legally Blonde the Musical. With the grant they were able to purchase high quality posters and postcards to advertise the show. Then, they networked with local businesses who generously posted and/or displayed the advertisements. They were also able to purchase an ad at the Oak Grove 8, which ran before each movie showing in all eight movie theaters.
