Please join us in welcoming Keren Baldwin to the Clackamas County Arts Alliance. Keren is our new Operations Manager, and we are so excited to have her on the team. In an effort to get to know her better, we asked Keren to share a bit about herself by answering a short series of questions, some more serious than others.
What excites you about working for the Arts Alliance?
I am excited to join the Arts Alliance team because I’m passionate about empowering others, serving the community and especially love the visual and performing arts! It seems rare to find something that combines your passions, skills, and experience but the Arts Alliance does just that!
Do you have any personal interest or passion in the arts?
In 2004, I received my BA in Fine Arts from Oregon State University. I enjoy the creativity and freedom found in mixed media, combining mediums to uniquely express ideas and emotions.
Any past work history/education you’d like to share that may be relevant?
In 2007, I moved to Indonesia to work with an anti-trafficking non-profit organization. The last ten years have been spent developing a rehabilitative aftercare program that empowers survivors. Art provides an outlet for expressing feelings and experiences that can be cathartic. Art, music, and dance play an important role in healing and hope for the future!
Now for our speed-networking silly questions… (Keren, you’re such a good sport!)
How different was your life two years ago?
I was living in Indonesia, riding public transportation, eating spicy food, and conversing fluently in Bahasa Indonesia!
Who is your celebrity look alike?
I’ve always been stumped at who my celebrity doppelganger is, if anyone has any ideas let me know!
What is special about the place you grew up?
Portland has always been and continues to be home! I love the beauty of the Pacific Northwest from Mt. Hood, to hiking in the Gorge, and the Oregon coast. Most of all, the friendly people make Portland such a wonderful place to live.
If your life was a book, what would its title be?
Adventures in Service, Expecting the Unexpected, or Extreme Cuisine
What irrational fear do you have?
What would be your spirit animal and why?
I really love golden retrievers, though I don’t know if they would be my spirit animal. They are kind, empathic, loyal companions, and are so cute!
What’s the spiciest thing you’ve ever eaten?
Indonesians eat Sambal, a type of salsa that’s mostly ground chilis. I thought I had gotten accustomed to a certain level of heat, so feeling brave one day I ordered the ‘medium’ sambal from this place known for it’s especially spicy sambals. You know those cartoons that depict steam shooting out the ears with a whistle-blowing sound? Yep, that was me. Shoveling rice into my mouth while downing water. It was quite the spectacle!
