Get a sneak peak at the mural restoration in progress and meet the muralists and the creative team behind The Artback\, all in the company of other artists and creatives. \nThe event will begin and end at The Spiral Gallery\, which features the inspiring work of local visual artists. SUMMARY:Poetry Contest Winners Reading & Open Mic
DESCRIPTION:The Clackamas Arts Alliance\, Milwaukie Poetry Series\, and St. John the Evangelist Episcopal church are delighted to host the Poetry Contest Winners Reading and Open Mic on Friday\, June 5\, 2026. \nThe reading will be part of the June 5\, 2026 First Friday in Milwaukie and will take place from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. in the meeting room at St. John the Evangelist church.at 2036 SE Jefferson St. The Featured Readers will be the winners of the Writing Contest sponsored by the Clackamas Arts Alliance. The winners will be reading their winning poems from the contest. The event will also be available virtually on Zoom. \n The Awards presentation will be hosted by Oregon Poet Laureate Emerita Paulann Petersen.  \nShe has eight full-length books of poetry\, most recently My Kindred from Salmon Poetry of Ireland. Her poems have appeared in many journals and anthologies\, including Poetry\, The Birmingham Review\, Prairie Schooner\, Orion\, Catamaran\, Wilderness Magazine\, the Internet’s Poetry Daily\, and POETRY IN MOTION\, which put poems on Portland\, Oregon buses and light rail cars. A former Stegner Fellow at Stanford University\, she’s the recipient of the Holbrook Award from Oregon Literary Arts\, and from Willamette Writers both a Distinguished Northwest Writer Award and a Legacy Award.  \nThen there will be the Open Mic for all who wish to read their own work or share some of their favorite poems. To get on the list to read ahead of time\, please contact Tom Hogan at tomhogan2@comcast.net. Plan to read 2 poems. We will go another round depending on how many readers there are. DESCRIPTION:Join the Clackamas Arts Alliance and New Century Players for our upcoming Makers & Creative Artists Workshop\, Theatre Auditions for Adults Beginners (or just those who just haven’t done it in a while). \nIn this workshop\, we will explore the ins and outs of theatre auditions! Led by New Century Players’ Board President\, Brandee Palmblad\, this workshop will prepare adults for their very first theatre audition or help those looking to re-grace the stage after life pulled them away. We will be answering questions such as: \n\nWhat is a side?\nWhat is a headshot\nHow does a theatre resume differ from a job resume—and do I need one?\nWhat is a “cold reading”?\nHow do you pick a 16-bar cut of a song?\nParticipants will have an opportunity to walk through a mock audition\, get tips on selecting a monologue\, get a sneak peek into what it’s like for the folks on the other side of the table\, and more!\n\nPlease bring something to take notes for yourself and any audition materials you may have already if you’d like advice.
