Healy Thurston worked with the Art Selection Committee, Police Station Steering Committee, Design Subcommittee, area residents, architects, project manager and the Clackamas County Arts Alliance, in the dual role of a design-team Artist and a concept fabricator. Three artwork installations were created for the lobby of the facility including the Thin Blue Line vestibule glass, a LED backlit topographic map of West Linn and a glass panel in the center of the lobby featuring local attractions and iconic locations of West Linn.
Project Background
The existing West Linn police station was constructed in 1936. The department has outgrown the existing facility and has contracted with architects from Group Mackenzie to provide a design for a facility at a new location which would allow for community policing needs through 2042. The building will be constructed to the Silver LEED standard by incorporating sustainable features in its construction and operation.
The new structure will better accommodate training, evidence processing, storage, operations, communication and staffing needs for men, women and K9 units providing police services. Citizen needs will also be met by providing public parking and space for community receptions and activities.
