Fundamentals of Painting

Art Friends,
We have a green light for our next art class. Friday, December 5, 25.
Let’s apply the creative knowledge we have learned and end the year with a brush in our hand and paint on our canvas.
I will have new source material for those who need a new subject to create from. Or you may bring a painting you would like assistance with. This is a wonderful opportunity to observe other artists’ mediums, styles and listen to my guidance as artists render their paintings. For those who may not know~ I provide art guidance/critique for many local artists through the North Clackamas Arts Guild.
(acrylic, oil, watercolor & mixed media)

Class reviews from current students-
Louisa is the ultimate Art Painting Instructor! I say this because she is an amazingly gifted artist. She is a scholastic instructor with the ability to motivate and convey the skills and nuances of painting to the individual needs of each student. I’m new to oil painting and so very grateful to have Louisa as my instructor. She inspires me and I look forward to continue taking art classes under her expert guidance. LO Parks & Rec is lucky to have her as an instructor!

Louisa’s watercolor class is the most insightful I have taken. Her passion and enthusiasm is contagious! She has taught me to understand color theory and various watercolor application techniques. As a class, we share our work with each other and Louisa provides positive and helpful suggestions. What stood out to me the most, is the one-on-one check ins and advice throughout the class. She is always kind and encouraging, asking if you would like help before offering it. She has inspired me to make watercolor painting a regular part of my life and keep learning! I would absolutely recommend to anyone who has been wanting to learn this craft to take her classes. I will be taking more of Louisa’s classes in the future!

“Louisa Moutos masterfully nurtures both new and practicing artists in their craft. Her easy manner and passion for painting inspires everyone to take the journey in discovering and expressing their own style. Using examples from classic art, photography and everyday observations, she conveys the fundamentals of recognizing color values, shapes and composition, allowing students to engage their artistic eye and confidently approach any subject.
In this relaxed and encouraging studio environment, Louisa takes time with each student, providing helpful demonstrations on color mixing and brush techniques which benefit all learners to get their painting to the next level. I highly recommend Louisa’s class to anyone interested in learning how to paint or artists looking to work in a new medium.”

I never took an oil painting class prior to enrolling in Louisa’s class but really wanted to learn how to paint with oils. I learned so much in this class and had a lot of fun doing it. Louisa is a very patient and knowledgeable teacher, in addition to being a wonderful artist.
She incorporates theory, technique and even some art history into the class making for a very interesting and satisfying curriculum. But the best part is the hands on painting instruction that she offers and her keen eye for helping aspiring artists get the most from our canvas! I could see my paintings improve and my confidence grow with each lesson.

I was coming out of a dark place in my life and decided I needed to try something new. I’ve always been moved by art so thought l’d give painting a whirl.I met Louisa Moutos at Fundamentals of Painting with Oil in Lake Oswego. Louisa was the breath of fresh air I needed, not just as an instructor but as an inspiration on how to view and live life. Louisa is warm, engaging, a bright light, optimistic and full of positivity and has lived her life abundantly. However, nothing matches her unbridled passion for art and painting.
She teaches that you don’t have to have an innate talent or be uniquely gifted to be a painter.
It takes work, thoughtfulness, planning and preparation to be great. It’s not just slapping paint on a canvas. There is light, shape, value, color, mood and more. Color mixing is one of the favorite things l’ve learned and Louisa will joke that if you are lost in the woods with just a stick and the three primary colors, you could make all the colors and the most beautiful painting.
Louisa’s encouragement has kept me coming back again and again to her 10 week classes and her monthly workshops. Her enthusiasm is contagious and she will embellish your skills and patiently work with you on your weakness without you knowing you have any weaknesses Both the classes and workshops are a wonderful way to meet other artists at every stage of their artistic journey and share ideas and works. Many of Louisa’s students have started showing their paintings. I am proud to say Louisa Moutos is my instructor, has become a cherished friend and I love her dearly! And if Louisa exclaims she has goosebumps after viewing your work, you have arrived!
