Q: How did you first learn about the Clackamas Arts Alliance?
A: “I learned about Clackamas Arts Alliance about three years ago when I met Sue Allen at an art reception at my local library. I had one of my linocut prints in a group show and we connected over printmaking. She told me all about the Artist Exhibit Program and I made sure to apply to the next open call for art.”
Q: Tell us more about your art medium and creative work.
A: “I am a self-taught printmaker, I create linocut and woodcut prints of landscapes and botanical subjects. I really love working in the reductive method, it allows me to layer many colors without having to use a ton of carving material. It’s a very contemplative process and peeling the paper off of the block to see what I’ve made never gets old.”
Q: As the new Artist Exhibit Program Manager, what are you most looking forward to?
A: “I’m looking forward to making connections with everyone in this creative community. I care deeply about arts and culture programming, and aligning myself with the people and places around me who are also excited about it can open up even more possibilities.”
Q: What are you listening to, reading, watching, or making in the arts + culture realm that makes life feel good right now?
“Let’s start with entertainment! The best book I’ve read so far this year was James – Percival Everett’s adaptation of Huckleberry Finn. I hope this novel will become required reading for every high school lit class in the future. I’m also really enjoying the entire 11 seasons of the X-files with my 14 year old right now. We just watched the episode they did in the style of ‘Cops’ – what a blast from the past! A few exciting art related things I’ve got going on: currently working on a large reduction print that will be exhibited in the ‘Wild & Luscious’ art show with the Oregon Botanical Artists. This will be in the Lakewood Center during the Lake Oswego Festival of the Arts, and I volunteered to do a printmaking demo in the gallery. I’m looking forward to helping Print Arts Northwest at the annual Gathering of the Guilds event at Oregon Convention Center. And one of my botanical prints was also recently collected by the Maryhill Art Museum which was a really pleasant surprise!”
