ABOUT:

Tilt by Emma Pattee

The Lake Oswego Public Library has selected Tilt: A Novel by Emma Pattee for its 2026 award-winning citywide reading program. Each year the Lake Oswego Reads Art Exhibition presents artwork inspired by the selected book.

“Tilt” helps readers imagine the very real impact of a major Cascadia subduction zone earthquake on the Pacific Northwest. This propulsive novel by local Portland author, Emma Pattee, follows Annie, nine months pregnant and shopping for a crib at IKEA when a massive earthquake strikes. Annie must walk across a city in chaos to find safety, encountering desperation, the generosity of strangers, and unexpected friendship along the way. “Tilt” captures the surreal, frightening, and sometimes darkly comedic ways people respond to crisis, offering a deeply human portrait of survival, and connection.
