PAINTING BASICS - COLOR MIXING
This class will cover basic color theory. Acrylic paints and a pallete knife are used to blend primary and secondary colors. An activity will be introduced to enhance color blending skills.
GOALS:
- Entice the viewer to play, create and blend new colors
- Introduce primary, secondary and tertiary colors
- Viewer will gain confidence blending paint to desired hues
- Pique the viewer’s interest to explore artistic skills and mediums.
- Have fun
MATERIALS NEEDED
- Acrylic tube paints
- Red – suggest Cadmium Red
- Blue – suggest Ultra Marine or Cerulean Blue
- Yellow – suggest Hansa or Cadmium yellow
- Palette knife, metal is better than plastic
- Watercolor paper or white cardboard,
- Palete paper (comes as a pad) or wax paper taped to a piece of cardboard
- Small brush – 1/2″ is good
- Small container of water
- Color sample strips from paint store
- 1 red hues
- 1 blue hues
- 1 yellow hues
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Julie Barrett is a contemporary realist painter of landscapes. Her artistic endeavors began as a child with mosaics, pottery and eventually painting of her experiences in nature. The primary sources of inspiration are from her travels with her Family and favorite places. She enjoys art history and volunteered as a docent at several venues in the Northeast.
Julie’s artwork is characterized by vibrant colors, high contrast and serene content. She has exhibited her works of art in group exhibits in Connecticut and Maine. She currently resides in Clackamas County.
