ABOUT: Cindy Geffel
I’m concerned about the environment and climate change. As a native Oregonian I remember rain through June, until the 4th of July when we always needed to bundle up to watch the fireworks. Now, we have heat domes and weeks of extreme heat in the summer, and longer periods of cold as well as historic ice storms in the winter. These paintings reflect the change on the landscape which we will continue to experience and unless we can change behavior, will ultimately lose.
I use oil paints on canvas to create personal fantasy spaces and unusual objects. Color, line, and movement are my primary expressive tools, especially strong color, which has always fascinated me. I enjoy connecting to my inner child through painting and modulating that visual expression with adult experiences and learning.
The Small Endless epitomizes my primary passion with art: the infinity offered in its inherent elements of form, color, composition, texture, foreground, background. The composition was inspired by a quote from the British visual artist Phillida Barlow addressing simplicity. (For the full Barlow quote see www.artmsr.com.)
My secondary and current passion is translating a thought into visual terms. Four Questions reflects a statement by the poet Lord Byron (1788-1824) who said there are only four questions “of value in life. What is sacred? Of what is the spirit made? What is worth living for and what is worth dying for? The answer to each is the same. Only love.”
