NINA BRADFORD
ABOUT
“This collection of my work shows the various styles that capture my imagination. I like to try different techniques to express my ideas. Working in a series gives me the time and space to do this.
The large black and ink paintings grew out of my studies of abstraction. I do a lot of collage and wanted to incorporate it into painting, as you see in the painted canvas shapes that complete the picture.
The Tide Pools series were born out of a very inspiring trip to Australia. I fell in love with the red earth and art. On a full moon night I was enchanted by the street names in Twentynine Palms, California, an entry point to Joshua Tree National Park.
I am also interested in using words in paintings and collage. I have many notebooks filled with words, slogans, quotes that provoke me. The Make Art Not War collages reflect this. I take great pleasure in storytelling and, because of this, I think my work has a sense of drama. I think art is the expression of our shared humanity and different realities. Arts’ purpose is to move us, push us to new ways of seeing.”
