When personnel director Doris Walker hires a man with a white beard to play Santa Claus in the Macy’s parade, she is startled by his claim to be the genuine article. Yet people around him, especially her young daughter Susan, notice something special about Kris.

Seen as deluded and dangerous by Macy’s vocational guidance counselor, Kris ends up in a court competency hearing.

With the help of attorney Fred Gailey, Doris’ next-door neighbor, Kris faces a court case to determine his mental health and, more importantly, his authenticity as Santa Claus.
