On April 3rd, Toolbox Gallery presents a historical exhibition tracing the life of Dorothy and Hurtis Hadley—trailblazing bakers, union members, and advocates for racial justice, craft, and community prosperity.
In 1977, the couple opened the Milwaukie Pastry Kitchen in Milwaukie, OR — marking the first Black-owned business in Milwaukie and the first Black-owned bakery in the State of Oregon.
Toolbox will showcase never-before-seen photographs, bakery equipment and even recipes, as the Hadleys take center-stage throughout April.
