Third Tuesday Authors: Mitzi Asai Loftus & David Loftus Tuesday, May 19, 7:00 – 8:00 pm Lake Theater & Cafe, 106 North State Street Lake Oswego Public Library’s Third Tuesday Author program is pleased to present From Thorns to Blossoms: A Japanese American Family in War and Peace with authors Mitzi Asai Loftus and David Loftus. Born on a fruit orchard in Hood River, Oregon, in 1932, Mitzi Asai Loftus spent three years of her childhood in government incarceration camps in California and Wyoming. For more than seventy years, she has given public talks about her family’s experience to audiences of all ages. Having lived much of her adult life in Eugene and Coos Bay, she now resides in Ashland. A lifelong Oregonian like his mother, David Loftus grew up in Eugene and Coos Bay. He has lived in the Portland area since 1991. A professional editor, proofreader, and writer, he has worked as a newspaper reporter and authored three books in addition to From Thorns to Blossoms. David also reads literature aloud at libraries, coffee shops, pubs, and his residence in Northwest Portland, in a series he calls “Story Time for Grownups.” He has acted in indie films, commercial video, and on many local stages and Shakespeare-in-the-Parks productions. You might recall seeing him as Chief Sitting Bull in a Lakewood Theatre Company production of “Annie Get Your Gun,” as well as “Arcadia” and “City of Angels.” This program is aligned with One Book, One Coast, a multi-state community reading initiative that invites readers to engage with ideas and concepts from the book, They Called Us Enemy, by George Takei. Details about One Book, One Coast and other opportunities to participate can be found on the LINCC website.

This event is made possible through the sponsorship of the Friends of the Lake Oswego Public Library, and is presented in cooperation with the Lake Theater & Cafe. Admission is free and no ticket is required (though food and drink purchases are encouraged to offset the cost to the Lake Theater).

Doors open at 6:30 pm, and the presentation begins at 7:00 pm. Lake Theater & Cafe is located at 106 North State Street, Lake Oswego. For more information, contact Alicia Yokoyama at 503-534-4228 or [email protected].
